You are being asked to participate in a voluntary research study. The purpose of this study is to better understand the unique needs of international students when it comes to managing finances in the United States. Participating in this study will involve completing this online survey which should take 10-15 minutes. Risks related to this research include the same risks that would be present when providing any information over the internet since security of internet connections cannot be guaranteed to be completely confidential; benefits related to this research include contributing to the understanding of unique financial challenges faced by international students studying in the United States which can be used in the development of educational outreach and policies affecting international students.

What procedures are involved?
The study procedures include completing this survey which should take 10-15 minutes. You will be asked to provide your UIN near the end of the survey, which will close on March 1, 2019 at 11:55 PM CST. There are no follow-up surveys planned in this study. If you choose to consent to allowing us to match selected directory information (major/college, grade level, degree, dates of attendance) and student account activity with your survey responses, any identifying information will be stripped from the data set before analysis begins.
Will my study-related information be kept confidential?
Faculty, students, and staff who may see your information will maintain confidentiality to the extent of laws and university policies. Personal identifiers will not be published or presented.
Will I be reimbursed for any expenses or paid for my participation in this research?
You will not be offered payment for being in this study. However, the first 100 respondents will receive a fidget spinner available for pickup after the close of the survey. Respondents will be notified via email after the close of the survey.
Can I withdraw or be removed from the study?
If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and discontinue participation at any time. Your participation in this research is voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate, or to withdraw after beginning participation, will not affect your current or future dealings with the University of Illinois System.
The researchers also have the right to stop your participation in this study without your consent if they believe it is in your best interest, you were to object to any future changes that may be made in the study plan, and/or any issues arise with the survey form itself that could compromise the security of your submission.
Will data collected from me be used for any other research?
Your survey responses or any additional information used within this study will not be used or distributed for future use in any other research, even with identifiers being removed.
